Art Studio Practice | 2013
A series of images created and presented for assessment while completing Year 12 in 2013. Two images were selected for Art Rage 2013.
Indea’s younger sister, Inighion, was the sometimes willing model for the images. Her face can still be found in the school office where the image, ‘Scream Then Scatter’ (column 1, row 3), is displayed.
The project, titled ‘Remnants‘, earned Indea a one-point-away-from-perfect score for the year. The images were presented in wall mounted light boxes in a small, narrow, blacked out space between the school drama studio and an exterior wall. This space was the product of building re-design and was essentially an old corridor that had become an unusable cupboard. For ‘Remnants‘, it was filled with haze and the back wall was made of grass, creating a surreal, dream-like setting. Indea was the only art student that year but in the year following her elaborate exhibition, and for several years after that, there were many eager art students and rumour has it they were all inspired by the melancholy (and incredibly dramatic) girl whose dreams were more exciting than her waking hours (and who had access to a small but undivided budget, which the new students would eventually learn they were unfortunately going to have to share). After the disruptions caused by Indea’s project to the drama studio (the only access point to the exhibition space), the small corridor/cupboard was blocked off and declared out of bounds (there was probably a health and safety element to this decision, as well as a ‘this space is basically asking students to make out in it’ element).
